About the Play

For her, it was Love at First Sight
For him, it was Love at First Sight
For her, it was Hate at First Sight
Can a wife compete with Man's Best Friend?

When Sylvia, a lab and poodle mix, meets Greg in the park, she takes an immediate liking to him.  And Greg loves dogs, so this should be a match made in heaven.  However, when Greg brings Sylvia home to meet Kate, his wife of 22 years, he may find himself in the dog house. Sylvia provides Greg with companionship and security.  Sylvia provides Kate with headaches and jealousy.  Just as the marriage seems ready to crumble, and dog and spouse fight it out for the affections of the man they both love, can Greg and Kate save their marriage and make Sylvia part of the family as well?

The New York Daily News:
"I can only call it one of the most involving, beautiful, funny, touching and profound plays I have ever seen."

Cast Needs
Greg, retirement age, dissatisfied, looking for companionship and approval
Kate, Greg's wife, a city girl, actively involved, looking for freedom to enjoy
Sylvia, loyal, frisky, temperamental, looking for a home
* Tom, Phyllis and Leslie
(a fellow dog owner, a sympathetic socialite, a strong-willed therapist)
* traditionally, all three characters are played by the same person)

Auditions will consist of cold reading from the script; all actors should be
prepared to have fun and act out multiple, distinct characters.

Sylvia opens November 9th for two weekends.
