C. Kay "Andy" Landis,  a Volunteer is conducting an evaluation on an inmate in a women's prison when the facility is put on lockdown and the women are trapped together in an interrogation room.

"The Volunteer" addresses penal social inequity, sexual hierarchy, alienation, and the ability to thrive.
